The Shroud of Turin is a piece of linen that bears the image of a man. The cloth is believed to be the burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth that he was wrapped in following his crucifixion. The shroud bears much historical significance as it may be the only rendition we have of what Christ looked like. Through enhanced photographs of the shroud we are able to see the impression and image of the face.
The shroud also gives us insight into the death of Jesus of Nazareth. From analysis of the shroud, forensic doctors were able to determine that the shroud covered a man who suffered from a large round wound to at least one of the wrists, which is consistent with historical findings of crucifixions. The shroud also shows a wound to the chest and multiple linear wounds on the legs and torso. The wounds sustained appear to be consistent with the scriptural crucifixion of Christ.
The mystery surrounding the Shroud of Turin remains today. Even with scientific testing and scrutiny in modern years, experts have been unable to conclusively identify the origin of the shroud.
