The cast bronze sculpture of Jesus is based on the exact measurements obtained from the image on the Shroud of Turin (believed to be the burial cloth of Christ).  The 3-D rendering was mandated by Pope John Paul II in the 1970s as part of the scientific investigation into the Shroud’s authenticity.  It remains today as the most accurate physical interpretation of the face that appears on the Shroud.
